With a first for tourism in American Samoa, Pago Pago Marine Charters had their new 50' charter vessel, “Double Hooked”, built by Alloy Cats/Kingfisher Boats in Tauranga, New Zealand, on display at the “Auckland on the Water Boat Show” which took place this past September 24th through 27th, promoting American Samoa as a tourist destination and the charter services that are available for visitors.
The Auckland on the Water Boat Show is New Zealand's biggest event for the recreational, charter and specialty boating industry with over 200 major marine industry manufacturers and suppliers represented and over twenty thousand visitors in attendance.
Over the 4 day show, “Double Hooked” attracted a lot of attention with many enquiries for fishing and diving trips in American Samoa. With promotional assistance from The American Samoa Visitors Bureau and the new charter vessel on display, potential visitors were impressed knowing what they would be sailing on with no surprises.
Tourism is one of the few industries capable of enhancing the local economy and as with any business, investment has to be made in infrastructure and amenities to attract visitors and “Double Hooked” adds to that vision of what visitors can expect.
The 50’ Kingfisher cat “Double Hooked” is powered by twin 450hp Caterpillar diesels. The planing cat achieved 32 knots during initial trials in Tauranga. As a dedicated charter gamefisher destined for American Samoa, “Double Hooked” features a massive cockpit, Cyril Jordon gamechair, aft bridge controls, air conditioning, and Garmin electronics.
